EU-Decision on 2,6 GHz
The frequency-related technical conditions for the use of the 2.5-2.69 GHz frequency band have been defined in a Decision of the European Commission on June 13th, 2008. The Commission decision is based on "block edge masks", that is, masks for maximum e.i.r.p. within and outside of an assigned block are defined for a base station. The specific limits can be found in the annex to the Commission's decision.
Procedures and consultations
The following procedures and consultations regarding this frequency range have been carried out:
- August 29, 2007: Consultation on the allocation of frequencies in the frequency ranges 2010-2020 MHz and 2500 - 2690 MHz and the future use of the 900/1800 MHz frequency bands
- January 30, 2009: Consultation on the allocation of frequencies in the 2500 – 2690 MHz band (2009)
- October 18, 2010: Frequency allocation procedure, allocation to A1 Telekom, T-Mobile, Orange and Hutchison 3G (F4/08-76).
- With the TKK’s decision F6/12 , the transfer of rights of use for the frequency block A9 to A1 Telekom Austria AG has been approved.
- With the TKK's decision F1/12, the change of ownership on Orange Austria Telecommunications GmbH, which is the outcome of the transfer of 100% of Orange Austria towards Hutchision 3G Austria Holdings GmH, has been approved. In accordance with the EC’s merger control procedure as well as with TKK’s Decision F1/12, H3G is obliged to divest the “Divestment Spectrum”, consisting of two continuous 2x5-MHz blocks in the 2,6-GHz band, to any new market entrants.
