900 MHz/GSM

In the past the 900 MHz spectrum was exclusively used for GSM. Following the refarming decision of August 2014 the spectrum can be used for UMTS and LTE.

The following figure shows the usage rights in the 900 MHz band taking into account the usage rights starting with 01.01.2016/18 (granted in the multiband auction 2013, agreed between operators on November 01, 2015 instead of January 01, 2015) as well as refarming and frequency trading between Drei/A1 TA and Drei/TMA:

GSM channels in the 900 MHz band

The 900 MHz band consists of former for GSM dedicated frequency range (P-GSM) and E-GSM-range which has been made available later.

  • E-GSM: (ARFCN 975-1023, 0):
    Frequency range: 880-890 MHz / 925-935 MHz
    Uplink carrier frequency: Fu = 890 MHz + (ARFCN - 1024) * 0.2 MHz
    Downlink carrier frequency: Fd = Fu(ARFCN) + 45 MHz
  • P-GSM: (ARFCN 1-124):
    Frequency range: 890-915 MHz / 935-960 MHz
    Uplink carrier frequency: Fu = 890 MHz + (ARFCN - 1024) * 0.2 MHz
    Downlink carrier frequency: Fd = Fu(ARFCN) + 45 MHz

 

Remarks:

  • With decision F6/12 of the TKK the transfer of rights of use for the channels 975-990 towards A1 Telekom Austria AG has been approved.
  • With decision F1/12 the change of ownership on Orange Austria Telecommunications GmbH, which is the outcome of the transfer of 100% of Orange Austria towards Hutchision 3G Austria Holdings GmH, has been approved. This decision contains the obligation to sell the channels 121-124.
