EU Signature Directive
Note: The Electronic Signatures Directive has been repealed with effect from 1 July 2016. As of that date, the eIDAS Regulation and the acts based on that regulation apply.
On January 19, 2000, the Directive 1999/93/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on a Community framework for electronic signatures was published in the Official Journal of the European Communities (OJ L 13, 19.01.2000, p. 12). The Directive is to be implemented in all member states by July 19, 2001. Austria has already fulfilled the requirements of the Directive by passing the Signature Act.
The Directive is available as a download in all official EU languages. Further materials on the Directive can also be found on the European Commission's web site.
