According to art 37 (1) Postal Market Act (PMG) in conjunction with art 17 Federal Ministries Act (as amended 2020) the Federal Minister is the highest postal authority of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism. Business is handled (according to the current distribution of duties) by Division IV of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Regions and Tourism.
The Federal Minister has the following functions:
- to lay down fundamental guidelines for the activities of the regulatory authority;
- to enact and administer regulations required for the implementation of international agreements, in particular on the Universal Postal Union (UPU).
According to the provisions of art 113 Abs. 2 Z 4 Telecommunications Act 2003, the Telecommunications Office is responsible for enforcement of the administrative penal provisions of the Postal Market Act.
